Baasha was was the son of Ahijah of the tribe of Issachar. He became the third king of the separate kingdom of Israel, and founder of its second dynasty, after murdering King Nadab. His rule lasted 24 years, and he showed no inclination to reverse the evil practices begun by Jeroboam. This brought on the wrath of God as predicted by the prophet Jehu.
So I am about to consume Baasha and his house, and I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat. Dogs will eat those belonging to Baasha who die in the city, and the birds of the air will feed on those who die in the country." (1 Kings 16:3-4)
Baasha died in Tirzah, which he had made his capital. His son Elah ascended to the throne.
