Menahem

Menahem ascended the throne of Israel after slaying Shallum. His ten year reign was marked by a similar ruthlessness. During his reign, Pul, king of Assyria, came with a powerful force against Israel, but was induced to retire by a gift from Menahem of 1,000 talents of silver. The money didn't come from the treasury however.

Menahem exacted this money from Israel. Every wealthy man had to contribute fifty shekels of silver to be given to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria withdrew and stayed in the land no longer. (2 Kings 15:20)

Pekahiah took over from Menahem on his death.
