2. Spiritual Warfare
With his death and resurrection, Jesus triumphed over the powers of darkness, establishing forever His kingdom here on earth. Furthermore, he gave us the task of exercising the authority He had won. “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you” (Luke 10:19). This includes the authority to cast out devils, but while not all of us might be qualified to be exorcists, all of us do have the power to evict the little demons who trouble us and make our lives miserable.
Heavenly Father, as I commence this time of prayer, I place myself and all those near and dear to me under your protection. I seal this room, this house, this neighborhood in the precious blood of Jesus and I bind all forces of evil in Jesus’s name. I renounce Satan and all his works and all his empty promises. I renounce every evil spirit who has dared to take up occupancy in my life, whether invited or uninvited. I throw open the doors to my heart, mind, soul and body, and in the name of Jesus Christ, your Son, who triumphed over the enemy by his death on the cross and subsequent resurrection and ascension into heaven, I command every evil spirit who resides there to leave. There is no place in my life, house and anything else that belongs to me for anything that is not of the Kingdom of my Father. I belong to God who bought me at a price. I am a temple of the Holy Spirit, who dwells in me. He is the only Spirit I have place for in my life and I welcome Him now and forever.
(At this point we can sing a song welcoming the Holy Spirit, and then say a little prayer asking Him to help us make this prayer time honest and meaningful.)
