Myths about abortion
Legalizing abortion reduces the number of illegal abortions.
False. Every time a country has allowed permissive abortion
the numbers of both legal and illegal abortions rise.
Abortion is humane and civilized.
False. It is violent and primitive. And it thrives on ignorance. Many people are not aware that a baby gets pulled out bit by bit, that the arms and legs, heart and eyes are crushed, or that he/she is sucked out in shreds by a machine.
The incidence of abortion is not really something to worry about.
False. In the U.S., one in four pregnancies now end in an abortion making it one of the nation's most commonly performed surgical procedures. In addition, abortion results in grave harm to the mother, both physically and psychologically.
The baby does not feel pain.
False. An unborn baby does feel pain. When aborted by hysterotomy, she kicks, tries to breathe and may even cry. If she is pulled out by forceps, he probably won't die until the surgeon tears off her head or pierces her abdomen. When she is sucked out by machine her end will be quicker. But she will still feel pain.
Abortion has no harmful physical effects on the mother.
False. Among other effects physical consequences are seen in sterility, miscarriages, ectopic (outside the uterus) pregnancies, still births, menstrual disturbances, damaged cervical muscles, perforation of the uterus, infection, hemorrhage, blood clots, peritonitis.
Abortion has no psychological effects on the mother.
False. Some psychological effects are guilt, suicidical impulses, sense of loss lowered self-esteem, preoccupation with death, hostility, self-destructive behaviour desire to remember death date, desire to end relationship with partner, nightmares, loss of interest in sex.
