I come from a country without any seminaries or vocation offices. I think I may have a vocation to be a priest. What should I do?

Lars asks:

I come from a country without any seminaries or vocation offices. I think I may have a vocation for Catholic priesthood. What should I do?

Dear Lars,

It is wonderful to get your question! God is taking care of his Church.

Lars, there are several things you can do.

One, if you feel that God may want you to serve the Church in your country, you should get in touch with any Catholic priest or Bishop you know and ask their advice. They probably have some arrangement with a seminary in another country where they can send you to study for the priesthood, and then return and be ordained and serve in your home Church.

If this does not work, write back to me and I will give you the name of a seminary in Rome that you can get in touch with, but in any case you are going to have to get in touch with your bishop.

If you feel your call is to missionary work outside your country, there is probably some missionary group you have heard of and are interested in. In that case it is a question of getting in touch with them and finding out directly what they recommend you to do.

Besides the above, and most importantly, pray. Spend time with Christ. Read and re-read the Gospels. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you, trust in him and pray to Mary placing your vocation in her hands. She is the mother of priests.

God bless. I will keep you in my prayers.
