Vocations
Holy Spirit Interactive: Vocations: FAQ: What attracted you to the priesthood? Why do you stay with it?

What attracted you to the priesthood? Why do you stay with it?

Jeanne asks:

I am doing a report on what I think my vocation is right now. It's also about how we learn from those who have been called by God. Even though I feel that I am too young to know what my vocation is, I still need help on the second part.

There are a few questions that I need answered by someone like you! I would really appreciate it if you would help me out here! Thanks!

Questions:

1)What attracted you to this ministry?

2)Why do you stay with it?

3)What do you find most rewarding?

4)What does the Church teach us about vocations?

Dear Jeanne,

Here are some very brief answers to your questions, and I hope you will discover your own vocation when it is time.

1) What attracted you to this ministry? It was the example of a priest I met. God used that meeting and the impression he made on me to put something in my heart. I looked for what he seemed to be asking me and then I followed it to see if that was it.

2) Why do you stay with it? Because I know for sure God wants me to do this. This makes me love what I do even though it is not always easy. Also I see so many blessings that come to others and to me through my vocation. It has made me extremely happy.

3) What do you find most rewarding? It is wonderful to be at peace with yourself knowing you are doing what you are supposed to. I love helping people, teaching them about God's love, and helping them in the Sacrament of Confession.

4) What does the Church teach us about vocations? The Church tells us that God chooses some people to give up everything else and love him alone and do his work. This is a gift to the person called, and also to the Church since part of these persons' vocation is to pray and work for others in the Church.

God bless.
