Educational Requirements
The works performed by members of the religious community usually dictate the amount of education that is required. A bachelor's degree is usually required, and often a master's. Many priests, brothers and sisters earn a bachelor's degree, particularly those involved in education.
Most communities prefer candidates to complete their bachelor's degree before entering, although some communities will accept after high school graduation. There are also some high school seminaries for candidates who are prepared to consider a vocation at that age. Some dioceses conduct preparatory seminaries for high school boys who are interested in the priesthood. Generally, the boys live at home while going to school.
