How do you know you have a vocation to the Priesthood?

Firstly, to be a priest today you need to have a heart filled with love for God. When this happens then you will be prepared to surrender your whole life to Him, for His work among people.

Secondly, a vocation means that God calls and a young man says 'yes' to God for his whole life. There are examples of this in the Bible like when Jesus called young men to follow Him. Also, look at the following passages: Mt. 19:16-30 and Luke 9:57-62. They tell us what type of life a priest has to live. There must be priests and sisters living close to where you are. Meet them and ask them why they became priests. It will increase your own understanding of the priestly life.

Thirdly, ask yourself: "Am I prepared to say yes to God and be his priest for my whole life?" The life of a priest involves hard work, sacrifices, sincerity, open-ness , love for the poor and dedication. You should be a priest for this.

Fourthly, discuss whether you have a vocation with a priest or a nun who can guide you to find your vocation. Also, talk to your parents about your desire to become a priest.

Finally, pray to Jesus and to the Holy Spirit to guide you to find your vocation. Only Jesus can inspire you to give your whole life to God. The Holy Spirit will give you courage and strength to follow generously.
