Garden Ornaments: Mini Planter Stakes

by Juliet Mascarenhas

No more boring potted plants!
Our Garden Ornaments (mini planter stakes) will transform any boring potted plant into a paradise of sorts ... They are perfect alongside all kinds of plants.  Birds, butterflies and insects will go well with flowering plants.  Flower stakes will go well with leafy plants.  In fact you can draw on your imagination to come up with your own earthly creatures and flowers to create mini garden stakes for your potted plant. How about frogs and mushrooms? You can even plant a pinwheel that actually works in the breeze. A tiny birdfeeder fixed to a stake would be welcomed by our feathered friends ...
Go ahead and bring some cheer to your garden!

1.  FLOWER GARDEN STAKE
Print the above shapes to make templates (see "how to print") Cut out five petals and one center out of thick card stock, using the shapes provided. You can use any colours that you like. Glue the petals to the back of the center. Attach a stake (see "how to attach a stake")
2. BUTTERFLY GARDEN STAKE
Print the butterflies in colour (see "how to print") on white card stock. Gently fold the wings upwards and together to give the butterflies a realistic look. Attach a stake to the back of the center body. (see "how to attach a stake")
3. INSECT (Dragonfly and Grasshopper) GARDEN STAKE
Print the insects in colour (see "how to print") on white card stock. Gently fold the wings of the dragonfly upwards and together it a realistic look. Attach a stake to the back of the center body. (see "how to attach a stake")
4. BIRDIE GARDEN STAKE
Print the body of the bird and the two wings (see "how to print") on green card stock. Fold the tabs of the wings and glue them to each side of the body. Using a coloured marking pen, draw the beak, eyes, body and wing lines. Attach a stake to the the bird. (see "how to attach a stake")

HOW TO ATTACH A STAKE:

You can use any of the three methods to attach a stake.

1.  Attach the stake to the back of the Garden Ornament using a hot glue gun. (Be careful if you have never used one before, the melted glue can really burn!)

2.  Attach the stake by plastering on layers of sticky tape (not  a very tidy option, I'm afraid).

3.  Attach the stake with Patex glue.
