Prayer for the Month: Unconditional Love
To be holy is to be in a conscious, loving relationship with God. Holy people are not simple canonized saints or exceptional people, but those who have a deep relationship with God and are conscious of the fact that God wants a relationship with them. As the First Letter of John insists, God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God and God abides in them. Love is not utilitarian, does not have an ulterior motive. It desires the good of the beloved and intimacy with the beloved. Holy people discover that God's love is unconditional, does not carry a price tag. To believe that one is loved with no ifs or buts is hard for many people to accept.
Couples who have a personal relationship with God do make a difference in the world. They are better spouses, better parents, more honest workers, more truthful and faithful friends. They see the world more honestly and recognize inhumanity and injustice more easily. They are more compassionate towards others, and passionate to see justice done. They set an example, more often that not unconsciously, that can and does inspire other married couples to find such holiness, and happiness, in their own lives.
Your Daily Prayer
Father in heaven,
I ask you to send me your Holy Spirit
to be with me all during this day.
May all my intentions,
everything I do, all I say and think,
be for your greater glory and praise.
Unite me with your Son, Jesus Christ,
who came to serve and not to be served,
offering his life for people everywhere.
I pray with Mary and the whole Church
