Prayer for the Month: Dare to Love
In his message to youth in preparation for World Youth Day 2008, the Holy Father urged young people to 'dare to love'. 'Do not desire anything less for your life than a love that is strong and beautiful and that is capable of making the whole of your existence a joyful undertaking of giving yourselves as a gift to God and your brothers and sisters...' The saints, he said, 'are true friends of God who channel and reflect this very first love'. 'Try to know them better, entrust yourselves to their intercession, and strive to live as they lived'.
The Holy Father presented Mother Teresa as a model of true Christian love. She heard Jesus' cry, 'I thirst', in the poorest of the poor and spent herself alleviating that thirst through concrete acts of love and service. 'Blessed Teresa put the teachings of the Lord into practice: 'Just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me' (Matthew 25:40).
May the Pope's message to young people find an echo in all our hearts and renew our desire to love and serve Him in each and every person we meet.
Your Daily Prayer
Father in heaven, I ask you to send me your Holy Spirit to guide me throughout this day. I offer all that I do, what I say and think, for your greater glory and praise. Bring me closer to your Son, Jesus, who came to serve, to lay down his life for others.
I pray with Mary and the whole Church
